What is Hygge?
You may have heard about this Danish word, pronounced ‘hoo-gah’. It’s a word that has no equivalent in English but loosely translates to ‘cosy’. We’re big fans of the concept so here is our guide to getting Hyggelig.
1. Wrap up warm and get outside whatever the weather. This isn't really negotiable when you have a dog desperate to get out anyway, but we always feel better for some fresh air and exercise. Ollie is a massive fan of the snow, but not so much the rain!
2. Spend time with friends and family, preferably outdoors too if you can. We love our family trips to the beach during the winter. It's usually pretty empty so there's plenty of space to run around and have fun together. Dress in warm clothes and wellies and you're all set.
3. Have a mug of something hot when you get home and maybe some sweet treats! Not even Ollie needs convincing about this one!
4. Maybe even curl up with a book and escape somewhere magical. We love a good book, in front of the fire with a blanket and Ollie for snuggles. Don't forget the candles too.
Is there anything that you would add? What are your favourite ways to make the long winter days more bearable?
